Kaizer Chiefs Apologise for Rowdy Fans’ Behaviour
Kaizer Chiefs have issued an apology regarding their fans’ disruptive behaviour.
Last Saturday, 2 November, Chiefs lost 4-0 to Mamelodi Sundowns in their Carling Knockout quarter-final clash at FNB Stadium in Soweto, Gauteng.
In response, frustrated Amakhosi fans threw projectiles onto the field. Additionally, several of these supporters invaded the pitch. As a result, three individuals were arrested.
Meanwhile, Chiefs are expected to be fined heavily once again, after they were fined three times last season for the same offence.
On Tuesday, 5 November, the Soweto giants released a statement, which reads:
“Kaizer Chiefs would like to sincerely apologise to all our stakeholders, sponsors, the Premier Soccer League, [the] South African Football Association, and our loyal supporters for the disappointing incidents witnessed on Saturday during the Carling Knockout Cup quarter-final match against Mamelodi Sundowns. While it was a beautiful day for football, it was unfortunately marred by behaviour that has no place in our beloved game.
“It is our hope that we can put an end to this negative behaviour, ensuring that our stadiums remain safe havens for both young and old supporters. The safety of everyone involved in the game, players, officials and fans is our top priority. Together, let us uphold the integrity and joy of the beautiful game.”
